About the Sweat Lodge and Sun Dance
The sweat lodge is a ceremonial sauna and is an important event in many
cultures. Although there are several styles of sweat lodges, stones are typically
heated in an exterior and then placed in a central pit in the ground. Rituals and
traditions vary. They often include prayers, drumming, and ceremonial offerings.
Often times the sweat is part of an extended ceremony called a Sun Dance.
